Biography

Maria Ivancin, Assistant Professor in the School of Communication at American University, is an experienced communication strategist specializing in the application of research insights to communication campaigns. At American University, she teaches communication research, strategic communication, and management. Ivancin is also President of Market Research Bureau, a consulting firm providing research in support of the development and evaluation of communication campaigns for clients covering a range of categories and marketing problems, including awareness and image, social marketing, advocacy, and branding. Her clients have included nonprofits, government agencies, industry associations and professional societies as well as corporations. Professor Ivancin has significant experience in the engineering community having conducted a number of studies for engineering societies and consulting firms. For NAE, she conducted the research for the report, Raising Public Awareness of Engineering. Professor Ivancin also taught at Georgetown University in the McDonough School of Business for ten years as an adjunct. She taught undergraduate and graduate classes in marketing, consumer behavior, advertising and market research. Ms. Ivancin has managed an advertising and PR firm, serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. She also worked for Procter & Gamble, where she was responsible for advertising research as well as consumer research for many P&G brands. She began her career as Research Director for WILL-AM/FM and TV, the University of Illinois’ public radio and television stations. Professor Ivancin earned her MBA in marketing at the University of Illinois. Her undergraduate degree is from New College of Florida.
